Macbeth
After reading the first Act in
the play "Macbeth". I pick the main character who is named
Macbeth, a Scottish general. At the beginning, he plays as a brave hero who
gained recognition because of his battlefield valor. However, his character
status seems to change after he encounters three witches with his friend,
Banquo. The witches predict that Macbeth shall be Thane of Cawdor. I start to
realize Macbeth has a very deep impatient ambition. He calls himself Thane of Cawdor,
"Glamis, and thane of Cawdor! The greatest is behind. Thanks for your
pains." ((I.iii.119-120). Macbeth also has a thought to murder King Duncan
in order to let the prophecy come true.
I feel a horrible, gloomy and tragic
atmosphere when I am reading and watching the play. I am wondering why those
witches have such power to determine the future. On another hand, if there is
no witches and no prophecy, will Macbeth’s destiny be changed? In my opinion,
the prophecy from the witches is the reflection of what Macbeth is thinking
about in his deep mind. After he knows his “destiny”, he has a perfect excuse
to commit crime which is to murder King Duncan. Because of the prophecy, no
matter what he does, he will still be Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth starts to play
an evil role in the play.
I hope to see that Macbeth can realize his mistake before he murder King Duncan. His amdition makes him to lost himself and lost the spirit to be a general.
